And now, for something different….

This post is about my son, Truck.
002

Adorable, no? Yes, because you don’t have to live with him! (I kid, mostly)
Truck is not as verbal as his sister is. My theory is that this is because the kid can’t get a word in edgewise, but that’s another post. What he doesn’t say with words, he more than makes up for with expressive looks, and body language.
For a non-verbal child of only two, he is quite the smart-aleck.

The other day, for example, he was having a bit of an issue with, well, everything I said to him. The only word out of his mouth that day was “No”, which toddlers are known for doing.

But by supper, both TheMan and I were very tired of hearing this. Supper was served, and Truck decided he was going to bounce back and forth from the table to the toy box. This isn’t something we allow, and he knows that. But that day he took issue with that, and refused to eat a bite. Even though it was a meal he normally enjoys.

TheMan sits him down at the table, for the umpteenth time, and sits beside him. He tells Truck that it is dinner time, and he is going to eat at least a few bites of the meal. Truck responds with, of course, a resounding, “No!”
TheMan looks at him and says, “Truck, I don’t want to hear you say ‘No’ again. Now, eat some dinner.”

Truck looks at TheMan, looks at his plate, and emphatically shakes his head. He then looks sideways at TheMan, as though checking to see if he noticed Truck said No without actually saying it, and gives him a big shit-eating grin.

I am in the kitchen, trying to gag my laughter, and TheMan is at the table trying to do the same.

The boy has CLEARLY inherited our genes. We are so screwed.

And this is exactly why my kid still gets strapped in to her booster.

Then it's bedtime. He'll eat a good breakfast with no "no" in the morning. Trust me. The kid won't starve.

@cara, he's a climber, it was getting too dangerous to leave him in the high chair for meals. Besides, he has to learn at some point, right?

@lin, oh definitely! He did wind up going to bed minus supper, and since I'm a "mean mommy" I popped his supper in the fridge and he ate it the next morning!

It is horrible sometimes, isn't it? My daughter will turn one on Monday…and she has my attitude. Her way of asking me to read a book to her is to throw it at me. Sigh. Sometimes I really do need to put myself in a time out before I scream at my three year old. He sure knows what he wants.
