Rain

Monday, June 11th, 2012

I don’t usually wish for rain, but today, I can feel it coming, and I’m longing for it.

The clouds are gathering, and the heat has weight today. You can feel it pressing down on you, as soon as you leave the air conditioned safety of the darkened house.

(All the blinds are down, and curtains pulled, from yesterday’s attempt to keep the relentless rays of the sun out.)

The sky is still. Not even the smallest breeze makes it through the thickness of the humid air.

It feels like I’m choking on the very air, and my skin prickles.

I wonder if this is how the newly planted fields feel. Do seeds feel suffocated as they wait for the rain to fall?
