A Pinned Project: Spaghetti Bread

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

I was intrigued when I spotted Spaghetti Bread on Pinterest. Let’s face it, I’m going to make spaghetti at least a couple times a month anyway. I might as well try to make it a little more interesting.

So I went ahead and tried it one night. It was good! Definitely worth a repeat. But let me give you a quick run-down.

Things I Did Differently

  • I didn’t have parchment paper, so after rolling out the dough, but before stuffing/braiding it, I transferred it to the cookie sheet. That way it didn’t fall apart on me!
  • I sprinkled powdered garlic on the dough after I rolled it out.
  • I used shredded cheddar cheese instead of blocks of mozzarella. It was just what I had on hand.

Tips and Tricks (ie Learn From My Mistakes)

  • If your dough won’t roll out nicely, walk away for 10-15 minutes and let it warm up a bit. Try not to stomp when you walk away, or someone may ask a dangerously stupid question like, “Hey, how is your bread going?”
  • Don’t rush. If you do, you may find yourself forgetting to add the cheese until 1/2 way through weaving the bread. And it’s not easy to un-weave that dough in order to go back and add the cheese. It is, however, completely possible.
  • Cook it longer than the recipe calls for. Otherwise, it’s just not quite done in the middle. I cooked mine for 45-ish minutes. If you feel it’s getting too brown on the outside, you can cover it with foil.

In the end, everyone ate it, everyone liked it and everyone was not upset when I made it again.

Which means that this recipe will be around for forever.

CheeseBurger MeatLoaf

Monday, August 1st, 2011

I’ve been on a comfort food kick lately. So, basically, foods you would serve with a huge spoonful of mashed potatoes. Like meatloaf.

meatloaf

Meatloaf is always a hit at my house, and this cheeseburger inspired version is the one my son asks for the most often.  This version is based off of a recipe that was shared by a poster at a message board geared towards military members and spouses. I can’t remember who shared the recipe initially, but a great big thank you to the person who did! You have made many meals a much happier affair.
