Fluff This

Friday, February 17th, 2012

I’m doing the Friday Fluff with Seeking Elevation again this week. Head over there to find out more.

What’s your sexual orientation?
I prefer to orientate myself in the north by north-easterly direction. I find it helps my mojo.

Do you share your bedroom with someone? If yes, with who??

I share my bedroom with my husband. Again, it’s just something I find helps my mojo…most of the time.

Do you resemble a famous celebrity?

According to one of those “Compare your photo!” sites that I once did, I look like Kate Winslet. This is something I’m really not sure about, and that confusion doesn’t do much for my inner mojo.

What brand is your mobile?

Mobile what?

What keychains do you have with your house keys?

None, actually.

Do you drive? If yes, what cars do you own?

Yes, I drive a 1993 Jeep Cherokee. We also own 2 1995 Ford F-150s, a 1981 CJ5 and a 1991 S10. Out of those, only my Jeep and 1 Ford are reliable daily drivers. Hazard of being married to someone with mechanical mojo…there’s always a project or 5 tucked away in the garage.

Do you read the newspaper?

Nope, I use my internet mojo when I feel the need to find out what depressing things are going on in the world.

Is the TV on right now?

I’m one of those people who always have the TV on.

What song are you hearing right now?

What a weird way to phrase that.

Any favorite books you wanna mention here?

Nope, not really. Not because I don’t have any, I’m just feeling lazy.

Are you up-to-date with the latest news on celebrities?

Nope.

Have you ever lied to a best friend?

I’m sure I have. Nothing too major, but I’m the type who invents plans when I don’t want to do something. Like leave my house.

Do you consider yourself intelligent?

I’m either half-way there, or there are a WHOLE LOT of people who fall below average in the world. It’s a horse a-piece, honestly.

Are you a morning person or a night person?

Night.

Do you enjoy doing stuff on your own?

Depends

Thank god this survey didn’t ask me if I enjoyed filling it out….

Slightly Similar Nonsense:

A Safe Place

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

I wrote this for the 14th Week of the Trifecta Challenge. This is the first week I’ve done more than lurk over there. If you’d like to lurk, or better yet, participate, head over and check it out!

There is a corner of my house, where no one really goes. The corner of the couch that is in the north east corner of the downstairs room, which is, in it’s turn, in the north east corner of the house.

The room that holds a desk, a couch and a guest bed, at the moment. It’s a worn out couch and ugly as an 80-year old stripper, though still very comfortable. There’s barely a path through the room, to that corner of the couch in the north east corner of the north east room.

I vaguely recall that the north east corner (or the kimon corner) is bad luck in the Japanese culture. Something about demons and spirits. In our house though, that’s the corner that takes the brunt of the wind, and the north east corner room is the least insulated. So come cold weather, everyone abandons it for daily use.

It becomes a place of solitude. A place of reflection. A place to bring your emotions and thoughts back under control, when life has them all stirred up.  It becomes a place for weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, if that’s what you need. It becomes a place where you can curl up, exhausted and drained, and sleep until your troubles diminish in size.

It becomes a safe place for the broken and weary.

Just five more minutes (Just Write 22)

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

The kids aren’t home right this second, but their presence is all over the house.
There is a stray pair of underwear in the middle of the living room floor, a casualty of the rush to get out the door this morning.  A cartoon still plays softly on the television. A stray pair of binoculars is under the coffee table, and the breakfast dishes are calling out to be washed.

I know I should get up and take care of these things, and I will. But right now, I am determined to enjoy my coffee before it gets cold. I have a blanket thrown  around my shoulders and, come hell, high water or rising piles of laundry, I will relax for a bit.

I spent all day running around yesterday. That’s not an exaggeration.  I spent over 4 hours behind the wheel. It was a combination of swim lessons and errands and cats needing neutering.  You wouldn’t think that just driving, sitting down, would take that much out of you, but today I am sore and ready for a nap. (It’s not even 10am yet)

But duty calls. I’ve been promising myself, “Just five more minutes,” for the last half hour now.
